Once upon a time, a dragon settled next to a large and rich city. The residents wanted to get rid of it at first, but then they managed to come to an agreement with it: the city would give the dragon a pound of gold and three jewels every day, and it would not bother them. The dragon kept it word, so the residents went on paying it. But soon enough, the situation began getting closer to a disaster, and a knight came to the city to slay the dragon. While he was on his way, an old turtle gave him the magical sword able to defeat the beast, but warned him that slaying the dragon was not the most difficult thing. The knight laughed it off, but accepted the sword and did slay the dragon, but as soon as he entered its lair full of treasure, he was so blinded with it that he did not mention that he transformed into a dragon himself. Since then, the residents had to pay even more - two pounds of gold instead of one and ten jewels instead of three, because the new dragon was even greedier than the previous one.

Time passed, and more knights came to free the city, but they all ended up as dragons, who gradually became greedier and greedier and greedier, so eventually the residents stopped letting them to their city.

And one day, a boy approached to the dragon's lair. The sword-keeping turtle was surprised, but still gave him the sword and the warning. Unlike the knights, the boy did not laugh it off. And yes, he managed to slay the dragon and entered the lair, just like his predecessors, but then he thought: "Why would I need this treasure? It does not bring any joy or happiness!" and exited the place. When he returned to the city, the residents asked him: "Where is the dragon?" And the boy replied: "There is no dragon. And it will never return."

Some say that the only way to slay the dragon is to become one. And I can see it very clearly now, for people being people, they tend to search for the guilty. Right now, there is a very convenient way of finding them: language. This is true, in some regions of my country Russian is very widespread, and those very territories were mostly attacked.

"They wanted Russia to come, so they got it."

How do you know? Blaming someone you don't know is very convenient.

"We should make the atmosphere unbearable for them. They are soulless husks that cannot be influenced even with a nuclear bomb. We should get rid of our internal disease."

This was said about those who had to flee their homes, escaping from the horrors of war, just because they tended to speak Russian. I don't know, perhaps I am a naive flower, but I believe that actions speak louder than words, and those who believe that those people are "an internal disease" have no idea what they've been through.

For me, it's very similar to raping. Some believe that you should not wear mini skirts and makeup or walk alone at nighttime, but in reality, a long skirt will not protect you from a maniac. People do what they do because they can. It is about power, not common sense. And anyone could be attacked for any existent or nonexistent reason, just because the aggressor's left foot wanted so.

Of course, I believe that eventually everyone will get to speaking the state language, but not so quickly. France was learning to speak French for one hundred years, so what do you language dragons want?

And finally, before you have another thought that some categories of people are more equal that other, recall one thing: some may have lighter skin than others, some may have darker eyes than others, some may speak other languages, but if you cut your fingers (or something else), you will bleed the same red with them.

A traveler was walking along the road, when he saw Death approaching to the nearby town. He asked Death: "Why are you going there?" Death replied: "God told me to take five thousand people from there." The traveler thought: "Who am I to tell Him what to do?" and walked on. A year later, the traveler learned that ten thousand people died at that town. Soon he met Death once more and asked him: "You told me that you were ordered to take five thousand people from that town. Why did you take ten thousand, then?" Death replied: "I did take five thousand people. Others died of fright."

Yes, we all heard that words can kill. Especially if they are repeated again, and again, and again.

"There will be a months-long blackout if the dam is destroyed."

"And right now, the missiles are aimed at the dams."

"Winter is coming."

"There will be rebellions."

"Prepare for the worst."

Of course, there are sensible words of reassurance that are able to prove that it should be all right, but will those who panic listen? Never. Even if you understand that the worst-case scenario is the least probable, the pressure from everywhere is unbearable.

I don't know how it will go on, but I am confident about one thing: each day we are a day closer to the end of the whole mess.

P.S. Mr. King, I did respect you before and I do even more now, but I do not mean what you meant about the whole mess.

I am not okay

"Considering that all the previous strikes took place at the refinery, most probably, this is dramatization for the purpose of getting more ammo."

"That's what they deserved! They got too relaxed!"

"Wow, this is so beautiful!"

"Goodnight, pig-b***hes!"

"Most probably, there was an ammunition depot at that place."

No, it was not a dramatization. A missile did destroy a mall in my hometown, which did not have any military value. It was a regular mall where people went to buy products.

I can't say I'm surprised. Deep inside I was expecting that something like this would happen. You know, some people believe that "it would not happen to them" when they see reports about disasters. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Those comments are not the worst thing. It is that history repeats itself, because humans do not learn from their mistakes and do not understand that past cannot be changed, but it may teach you a lot of things. Approximately once a century a person who believes they are smarter than anyone appears, and it all begins anew. This time it began here. It will end, eventually, but until then we have to be patient.

The boomerang was thrown. And it will return, that is what I know.

Two years ago, when the COVID-19 pandemics broke out, the summer terrace of my favourite chocolate shop/cafe being built became a symbol of hope to me.

Now there is a new one. Those are the stripes of light on the ceiling in my room in the evening. If they are there, it means that the street lights are on and there is no air raid warning, because when it begins, they are turned off. And what is your symbol of hope?

...And in despair I bowed my head,

"There is no peace on Earth," I said,

For hate is strong and mocks the song

Of peace on Earth, good will to men.

But the bells are ringing

Like a choir singing,

Does anybody hear them?

Peace on Earth, good will to men.

The wrong shall fail, the right prevail

With peace on Earth, good will to men.
